About Avery
Avery Florence (She/Her) is a passionate Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A) under the supervision of Dr. Shyann Campana of Addison Therapy Associates (ATA) and Eva Escobedo, Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S). Avery received her Masters of Science degree from the University of North Texas.
Avery is an openly transgender and neurodiverse clinician who specializes in seeing neurodiverse clients, including clients with autism, intellectual disabilities (IDD), and attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), as well as transgender and/or queer clients and clients experiencing complex or developmental trauma. Avery believes that it is imperative that a safe space be made in therapy in order for the change process to begin, and prides herself on her nonjudgemental and curious stance towards the presenting concerns of her clients.
Avery has experience working in many different levels of care including working at the mental health and IDD authority, Denton County MHMR, the domestic violence agency Denton County Friends of the Family (DCFOF) and the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)/Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Changes Outpatient of Frisco. Because of her experience, Avery knows that therapy looks different for each person, and knows that each person needs their own individualized plan of recovery. Avery also knows that no one knows you better than yourself and works with clients through a combination of narrative therapy aimed at reauthoring the stories that play in our minds, and cognitive approaches to alleviate symptoms of these oppressive narratives.
Outside of the office, you can find Avery reading a good book, playing table top games such as Dungeons and Dragons or card games like Magic the Gathering, and taking her cat on long walks around her home. She is excited to get to know you and your story and help guide you towards the life you've always wanted to have.
Avery sees the following client age groups:
Pre-teens (ages 10-14)
Teenagers (ages 14-17)
Adults (ages 18+)
